A Tough Fight in the Pit: Lunchbox Reflects

Fights can be tough. Really, really tough. Even when you win, in this case, by a large margin, you’ve still got a lot of unanswered questions. What did you do right? What did you do wrong? Join Lunchbox as he analyzes what he did right, and what was wrong, versus TD on The Pit.

Editor’s Note Originally, this was planned as an audio commentary, but because it’s rolling out in advance of our new videos section, we’re releasing it in article format. Our suggestion is to watch the gameplay in full, then scroll down, look for the specific time markers, and watch the sections again, applying Lunchbox’s thoughts to it. Rinse, and repeat.

We hope you enjoy! And on a sidenote, as a bit of a tease, we’re making it available, for free, to everyone in both HD & SD.

4 Positive Aspects

Time Remaining: 15:00 – 14:22

Off the start, instead of charging straight for OS, I tried to help Neighbor by putting shots into both of the guys going for OS, the guy on their training, and their sniper. Basically, we’re able to kill their sniper by double teaming him and then Neighbor pushes up to double team Pistola, enabling me to get a full OS. My main goal here was to not challenge or die, but to get a full OS.

Immediately after getting a full OS, I push into their base and gain control of their tower.

Time Remaining: 12:39 – 12:20

Here I get a courtyard spawn. Off of my spawn, I know that the other team has control of our needler side of the map. Instead of pushing straight towards the, I opt to meet up with Roy, who has OS on our training in order to work together and make a push back towards our greenbox. I let him lead, since he has the OS, and scope things out. I fall closely behind, allowing us to double team anyone that has pushed through to our base.

Ultimately we are able to clear out all of TD from our base without any deaths, which is the best case scenario.

Time Remaining: 10:35 – 8:40

Right here I grab OS and my immediate goal is to get to their top tower so I can lay down support fire and try to keep control of their base. Throughout the whole time I am in their base, I try to play passively and let TD charge me, not focusing on solely one player. In doing this, it allows my teammates to play more aggressively and run more freely while TD has to draw more attention to me on their tower. Whenever I get put to 1 shot, I drop into the courtyard where I have teammates to watch my back and make sure I stay alive.

Time Remaining: 8:40 – 7:40

Here, off my spawn, I know that the OS is coming up. My first priority is to secure the OS, which we do. Once again, the OS is the key to our push to their base, it allows me to play extremely aggressive and get their top tower with hardly any resistance. This is yet another example from this game of how OS can be used effectively and intelligently. From top tower, I once again am able to lay down fire on the other team and pick of easy kills that my teammates have weakened.

Four Negative Aspects

Time Remaining: 14:25-14:16

I focus way too hard on SK. When there is a guy sitting out in the open on their training, I should have helped Neighbor double-team that player. When you get top tower your goal should always be to put shots on people and stay alive, helping any teammates that are trying to push up.

Time Remaining: 14:07 – 14:00

Off my spawn I see I have two teammates on their green. I try to push through camo to support them, unfortunately I pushed in too fast and I do not allow my teammates enough time to help me. I am forced into an individual battle which I end up losing. These are situations you want to avoid because it all comes down to winning the BR battle versus using teamwork to overpower individual players.

Time Remaining: 13:00 – 12:42

Versus Heinz, knowing that I was the only one alive in our base, I should have not challenged and focused more on staying alive making them work harder for the kill. Anytime you can avoid giving up the easy kill allows your teammates more time to come and help you. I had put myself into a bad position in our pit leaving me very vulnerable to enemy players pushing through.

Time Remaining: 12:20-12:00

After I pick up the double kill in our base, I immediately push through camo in an attempt to sneak behind TD on their spawn. This would have likely been a good play had my team been distracting them on training side, but since I was the first one pushing TD expected it and caught me. In situations like this, you don’t want to push through on your own just because you killed one or two players, because this is an obvious play that the other team is most likely expecting. I could have used more patience in my pushes, waiting for my teammates to draw attention away from the flank allowing me to get behind them.

Final Note Throughout the entire game you will notice that we had control of their top tower. This, combined with getting the majority of the OS’s, allowed us to get a stronghold on their base and keep them playing defensively throughout the match.
