The Sense of a Goose: An Inspiration to us All

Forgive me for going back in time a bit, but I think the topic more than warrants it. During the Halo 2 days of MLG, if there was ever a dynasty story, it would have to be Final Boss. Their domination was, well fascinating. And, for myself, it was the subject of much thought.

At the time, teams such as Str8 Rippin, Carbon, and others were, in my opinion, equally skilled; and, in certain instances, possibly even more so. But Final Boss maintained its domination. They had something, something that you couldn’t point at in a game and say “there!” But something you knew was there. Something that defined them. Something that enabled them. But what? That was the question.

What exactly was it that enabled Final Boss to go relatively unchallenged for so long a time? Was it raw skill on the part of the players? The countless hours of practice? Or was it something else?

Naturally, all of these factors, and countless others, played a role in their overall success. But they’re not the reason why they succeeded where others fell short. So, with that, we’re left at a standstill, looking for an answer.

It certainly wasn’t their individual skill; each member was incredibly talented, but there was never enough of a skill divide amongst the top teams for this to account for their success, because if you looked at their competition, the different was negligible at best. And, in certain instances, there were other players who were actually better. That begged…
