The Spawn System: It's not just there to get you into the Game

It’s more than just a mechanism for bringing you into the game; knowledge of it can extend much further; enabling you to stay alive, lock down maps, and most importantly, win games. In many ways, it’s the most important thing to understand. So let’s do just that.

Many do not know this, but spawns are actually the most important part of the game to understand. In a game such as Halo 3, players are repeatedly dying and re-spawning in different locations around the map. Knowing when and where opponents are spawning can allow you and your team to take control of certain parts of the map and “spawn lock” the other team. Spawn locking is when your team blocks a certain number of spawns forcing the other team to spawn in a certain area, which your team then focuses 100% of their attention on to, allowing them to effectively spawn-kill.

In order to understand how the spawn system works, you need to know where the spawns are so I’ve gathered quite a few screenshots for The Pit, MLG v6.

What’s Viewable in Forge

Knowing the exact locations of the spawns allows you to pre-aim and put shots on your opponents the moment they spawn which causes confusion and annoyance, and also forces them into cover. Thanks to the Forge in Halo 3, days of trying to nail it down by trial-and-error are mostly behind us (more on that later). So let’s take a few moments to run…

This isn’t 100% accurate but you know what, that’s okay for the time being because it does give a very good outline as to how it works. I am going to fully explain Reach’s once it comes out.
