Str8 Camp. Better than lessons.
What if you could spend a weekend with the reigning 2008 Halo 3 National Champions, Str8 Rippin?
Sound like a pipedream? Something that isn’t possible? Well, now it is. You see, in March of this year, Tsquared, Legit, ElamiteWarrior, and Snip3down set the competitive Halo world on fire by coming together and moving into one large home in Orlando, Florida. Why? To maximize their potential as a team. After all, Halo is a game that relies on the ability of teammates to connect. So what better way to further that than to grow together? To live together?
Fast forward to today. The Str8nctuary is open. And Str8 Rippin wants you to join them for a weekend of intensive training, multiple LAN sessions, and of course, countless memories. Now, more than ever before, you can not only learn from your instructors, but get to truly know them as well.
Currently Sold Out
At this time, the June 12-14 and 19-21 sessions are sold-out. When additional camp session dates are finalized, and update will be made.
The Details
What happens in the Str8nctuary…
Doesn’t stay in the Str8nctuary. And when you’re done, you won’t want it to, either. No, no; you’ll be itching to hop on Xbox Live and put your newly honed skills & sharped mindset to the test.
For three days and nights, you’ll experience the most involved level of instruction ever offered by Gaming Lessons, or, well, anyone for that matter—all while in an atmosphere that creates once-in-a-lifetime memories. You’ll transcend the role of student and, quite literally, become part of the Str8 Rippin team. You will stay with the team. You will eat with the team. And, of course, you will play with the team.
This all adds up to one thing: for one weekend, you will be the primary focus of the world’s reigning Halo 3 champions. Your matches will be recorded. Your moves analyzed. Your thoughts dissected. Your skills put to the test. And, in the end, you will come out not just a better player than you were when you first walked through the doors, but a smarter one. A professional one.
Yeah, you can crash here
You’re more than welcome to book a hotel room for your time in Boot Camp. There’s certainly a lot of nice ones in Orlando. Or, you can crash here.
Yes, that’s right. You can crash here. With the Str8 Rippin team. In the Str8nctuary—the house that is about one thing and one thing only: gaming. Why? Because you’re paying for one thing: to step up your game. We don’t want you to waste a minute of it. Only ten minutes from the MCO Airport, you’ll find room and board for your entire stay, a workout facility (bench, swimming pool, free weights, etc.), and much more. You’ll even be supplied with the basics such as pillows and blankets, shampoo/body wash/conditioner, etc., towels, and access to a washer and dryer. And, of course, there’s unlimited Dr Pepper here as well.
On the gaming side of things, you’ll find even more goodies: the Str8nctuary is fully equipped to mimic an actual MLG event, with eight Xbox 360s with hard drives and VGA cables, eight Viewsonic NX2232W’s, eight Astro Studio A40 headsets equipped with mix amps and wires, and of course, all of it is fully networked. As if that were not enough, in order to optimize online play, we’ve installed a dedicated T1 internet connection for gaming as well as a WiFi network for surfing the internet (for instance, visiting Gaming Lessons).
Wait! I have questions!
And we have answers.
All kidding aside, questions are not only expected, but welcome. To the side you’ll find the most common questions we field about the Str8 Camp. And, if you don’t find the answer you’re looking for, feel free to contact us and we’ll jump at the chance to help you.
To be completely honest, there’s nothing quite like the Camp anywhere else in the world. At its heart is an entire weekend, from when you arrive Friday morning to when you leave Monday evening, of intensive training with the entire Str8 Rippin team.
But beyond that, it’s also a chance to meet and hang out with the entire Str8 Rippin team, along with just 3 other fellow campers. And, of course, your accommodations, food for the weekend, and travel to and from the airport are also completely covered.
The end result is simple. It’s a camp to improve your skills as a gamer. But it’s also a chance to get away from everything and form gaming memories you just can’t get anywhere else. Memories that you’ll keep with you for years to come.
You’ll game. You’ll socialize. You’ll laugh. You’ll get better. You’ll have fun. Oh? You want specifics? Sure.
At the most basic level, you’ll game. Depending on the needs of each individual this will involve LAN practice in a variety of gametypes (4v4, 2v2, 1v1, FFA, etc.) to get your skills to the next level. Beyond that, every game will be broken down for you from a variety of perspectives in order to force you to become a more analytical player. And that’s just the beginning.
To be frank, it’s a tricky thing to explain; like lessons, much of the direction is determined during our time together. Naturally, if you have questions stemming from this, feel free to let us know.
On one hand, absolutely. Unfortunately, when dealing with such an exclusive event; one where only 4 individuals can attend per session and only a limited number of sessions are planned per year, a high cost is not only expected, but is unavoidable.
However, that’s looking at the costs from a rather singular point-of-view. The average hourly cost for lessons with a Str8 Rippin team member is $84. During your stay at the Str8nctuary, you will receive over 12 hours of lessons per day. Factoring in shortened travel days (Friday and Monday), you will be looking at approximately 36 hours of intensive and fully hands-on training.
Even factoring in volume discounts, you’re looking at over $3,000 if you wanted a comparable amount of time with our instructors through normal lessons.
Naturally, it depends a lot on you and what you need to improve on. Generally, efforts start out with a heavy slant towards individual skill and slowly shifts to that of a team-based situation throughout the course of the weekend.
When you get right down to it, each member of Str8 Rippin has their own niche. Their own specialty. But what makes the team the powerhouse that it is is the fact that each member can shift out of their usual specialties when the situation calls for it. Why? Because Halo 3 is a scenario game, first and foremost. By the time the weekend is over, you will have received the training necessary to prepare you for any scenario that faces you.
It sounds cheesy, but you need to bring a positive attitude and energy to the camp. Without that demeanor, you will suffer and so will your fellow students. Beyond that, you’ll need airfare or transportation to Orlando (MCO airport if flying), whatever knowledge you have of the game, a strong desire to learn and an openness to new ideas, and of course, personal items such as clothing and toiletries as well as a controller and, if you have one, a memory card filled with gameplay footage.
First, all travel will be pre-arranged and cleared with us so that there are no surprises. When your plane touches down, you will be picked up and escorted to the Str8nctuary. There, you will meet the three other students attending the bootcamp, each choosing a room for the weekend. A member of Str8 Rippin will give a short briefing period where they will talk about the schedule for the next couple days.
Introductions will be made and friendships will start to form; shortly thereafter the training will begin.
A typical day at the Str8 Bootcamp will consist of working out, pre-game warmups, game footage study, LAN practice, Xbox Live practice, and eventually the inevitable grudge matches. You will get a chance to interact and bond with the members of Str8 Rippin, other Pro Players, and other gamer’s around the house. Once the weekend is over, transportation for your arranged flight will be provided, whether it be Sunday or Monday, leaving you with the perfect mix of practice, social interaction, and relaxation to not only help you step up your game in a manner never before thought of, but also form memories that will last for years.
After your purchase, you will receive an email including a short form to fill out about yourself. The form includes such things as your name, weekend dates for training, arrival time, Xbox Live gamertag, skill level in Halo, tournament experience, and other questions that will help the team better understand who you are, allowing them to help you more effectively in your training.
Once the form is completed and submitted, you will receive an email from a member of Str8 Rippin detailing the transportation to and from the airport. Depending on when your trip to the Str8nctuary is, you will want to start thinking about what to pack.
Sorry to hear that!
